A mixed bag of results.

Ladies 1st

The ladies 1st bagged another 3 points with a topsy-turvy game in the rain against Bolton. The first half ended 3-2 with goals from Jenny Zwijnen, Agata Uchronska and EJ Macleod. Bolton soon made it 3-3 in the second half, however a series of passes between Zoe Franklin, Laura MacLeod and Marianne Hunter put EJ Macleod in for her second of the game to make it 4-3. Vagrants then absorbed a lot of pressure from Bolton but put the game to bed with a fine breakaway goal stroked in by Shami Ahmed. A superb diving hit. Bolton had at least a dozen penalty corners and couldn’t convert any of them. Great defence and commitment, particularly by Vick Atkinson (who received a blow to her foot at the end of the first half, finished the game, headed to Leighton to find she has a broken big toe), kept Bolton at bay. Ali Smith made save after save allowing a Vagrants win to be achievable. Deeside 1st away next weekend will be a good test.

Ladies 2nd
Vagrants absorbed a lot of pressure from Deeside 2nd team for the first 15 minutes of the first half, however it was Vagrants who scored first with a brilliant solo run from Abbie Iddenden demonstrating great composure with a one-on-one with the keeper. Deeside continued to attack but could only manage 1 goal before half time. Katy Hey, playing in goal, making some terrific saves. Despite an amazing reverse stick block on the goal line by Nat Stevenson, Deeside scored 2 more goals early in the second half making it 3-1. Vagrants rallied, and dominated what was left of the second half but couldn’t manage to overcome the deficit and scrape a point. Ola Jama scoring the second goal. Manager/Captain, Bodge wanted to ensure a mention in the match report for Lisa Holland and Dionne Johnson who linked well with forwards Ola, Shez Marsden and Abbie. Bodge didn’t think Vagrants deserved to lose the game with how much effort was put in by all players. Me thinks Bodge doesn’t like losing!!! And as I write this report her beloved football team have also lost this weekend!! Chin up, Bodge….Oswestry at home next Saturday.

Ladies 3rd

Playing against Brookland Poynton 4th, the game started with both teams looking strong and showing potential. Brooklands were awarded what turned out to be their one and only penalty corner of the game in the first half which was coolly dealt with by Grace Leonard (GK) and her penalty corner team. From that strong display of unity and determination, Vagrants then dominated the midfield and won their own penalty corner just before half time. Trish Boffey injected, and a combination of Paula Bourne, Beth Robaszek, Trish again, to Isabella Escott resulted in a goal! A move straight from the training ground! Vagrants kept good possession in the second half and were awarded another penalty corner in which super-striker, Isabella Escott, slotted home after receiving the ball from Paula. Player of the match was awarded to Ellie Jones who ran the midfield for Vagrants. A worthy victory maintaining a 100% record and occupying the top spot in the League table. Next week is Alderley Edge 6th team at home.

Men’s 1st

After a great start to the season last weekend, Crewe travelled to Windermere looking to build on last week’s result. The game was very evenly matched at half time with Chris Regan’s converting from a penalty corner to level the game after Windermere opened the scoring early on. The next goal was always going to be key, and a poor spell from Crewe enabled Windermere to score 3 goals in a 10 minute spell. Regan converted from another penalty corner after some good work in the D from Phil Robinson. This turned out to be a consolation as the game finished 4-2. Vagrants hope to get back to winning ways next week when they host Bebbington.

Men 2nd

The Men’s 2nd team were able to field a much more experienced team this week, with a few more familiar and experienced faces. Neston employed a high intensity press right from the off making it difficult for the Vagrants to have any space and duly lead to the first Neston goal. Vagrants then settled into the game and applied some pressure on Neston winning a penalty corner. Tom Link converted with a solid drag flick crashing into the net to level things at 1-1. Unfortunately, Vagrants then went through a poor defensive spell which resulted in 2 quick Neston goals before half time. Following the break Vagrants came out more positively and scored within 5 minutes of the restart. A goal for Shane Warren, his 2nd of the season, making it 3-2. Neston responded by increasing the intensity and as Crewe pushed for an equaliser, Neston struck from a penalty corner and then on the break to have a comfortable 3 goal cushion. A frustrating and disappointing afternoon but some positives to take forward into a very winnable game against Rhyl next week.

Men 3rd

Result 4-1. Strong start to the League by the Men’s 3rd team. Details of the game are being kept secret at this time!! Timperley 6th team at home next week.

U10’s

On another lovely Sunday morning, the U10’s team ventured over to Deeside to play in a mini-tournament against Deeside, Triton and Sandbach. The team played 4 games and gained valuable match experience. They will play another festival on the 30th October.
