Ladies 1st

Expectations were high today on the Ladies 1st team and on the final hit of the game secured a well-deserved victory against Timperley 2’s.

First goal came from a great cross from Agata Uchronska from the left hand side with Shami Ahmed, in that perfect centre forward position, to capitalise. Second goal was a clever reverse stick slightly lifted shot by skipper Zoe Franklin. 2-0 at half time and things were pretty good. As expected Timperley came out hard after half time and scored 2 goals in quick successive, then a third to lead 3-2. Vagrants remained positive and the equaliser came from another amazing diagonal run from Agata from left to right putting EJ MacLeod in. With seconds to go to the final whistle Vagrants got a short corner and Marianne Hunter scored from short range sending the ball under the keeper over the line!! Roll on Bolton at home next week!!!

Ladies 2nd

The Ladies 2’s started well in the first half going 2-0 up fairly quickly and looked in full control. Lucy Pearson sending a thunderbolt (this week!) into the left hand corner from a penalty corner. Lovely play on the right from Ola Jama and Becky C-G which lead to Becky neatly slapping the ball at the top of the D to make it 2-0. Shez Marsden made it 3-0 going into half time.

Playing against their toughest opposition yet, Bebbington railed and scored 2 goals which made the last 10 mins a tense one from a Vagrants perspective. Christine Lawson making some crucial saves by advancing out and making it difficult for the Bebbington players. Vagrants held on for victory and maintain a 100% record in League games. Tough game next week against Deeside 2nds.

Ladies 3rd

Playing against Neston South Wirral 4’s, Vagrants dominated play in the first half but unable to put the ball in the back of the goal. Beginning the second half with more confidence and determination resulted in Mel Brooks converting a penalty corner to take the lead 1-0. Another penalty corner and this time Gabbie Harvey scored. Playing for the 3’s this week, Isabelle Escott demonstrated her ability and potential resulting in some consistent Vagrants pressure. The third and final goal came from another penalty corner with captain, Paula Bourne injecting and Gabbie scoring her second of the game.

Player of the match went to Charlotte Oakley who played really well at right back making some great tackles and putting training into practice with some great marking! Alderley Edge 6’s next week.
Ladies 4th – no game
Men’s 1st
What a great start to the league season for the men’s 1’s. A very dominant display saw Crewe come out 7-1 winners with two goals each from James Holt and Pete Cornell. With Phil Robinson, James Capper and Chris Regan chipping in with a goal each. Onwards and upwards to Windermere next week…!

Men’s 2nd
A young 2nd team headed over to Formby for the first game of the season. The team started exceptionally well and had the majority of possession in the first 20 minutes. Against the flow of the game Formby scored just before half time giving them the momentum going into the 2nd half. Again the team started the half well but unfortunately a superb reverse stick strike from a Formby forward and a break-away goal after a scoring chance for Vagrants saw the team 3-0 down. Vagrants continued to play well and after a number of unconverted chances, Shane Warren scored making it 3-1. Vagrants kept up the pressure and a goal from Andrew Ticehurst made it a nervy last 10 minutes for Formby. Other chances followed but unfortunately could not be converted leaving the score at 3-2. Some lessons learned and lots of positives to take back to fortress Vagrants for the next game against Neston South Wirral 2’s.

Men’s 3rd vs Men’s 4th
Men’s 4’s are playing as a friendly team this season so this game was used as a warm up/practice and involved some of the younger players from the development group. Bowden’s 7’s and 8’s are the opposition for the 3’s and 4’s respectively next week.
