Ladies 1st team
A disappointing game for the 1st team today. A 6-2 score line suggests a bigger gap between the teams than there actually was. Stone played some excellent hockey and were more clinical in front of goal than the Vagrants. Making her debut for the 1st team today, Agata Uchornska showed real talent and ability with several amazing solo runs and many creative passes. Two other players also making debuts – Christine Lawson and Ola Jama – both demonstrated potential and made positive contributions. The 2 goals scored today came from an unlikely and surprising source, albeit she has previous experience as a centre forward, Ali Smith converted from close range twice and was unlucky to not have a hat-trick to her name (watch out Bodge – your centre forward position in the O35’s could be at stake!!). First League game beckons next week…Timperley 2nd team away.

Ladies 2nd team
The first of 3 teams to finish the day with a 100% record so far. There was some delightful hockey played by this bunch today. Abbie Iddenden opened the account with a one-on-one with the Brooklands Poynton keeper calmly slotting the ball away. Lucy Pearson converted from a penalty corner using that ‘well known’, and ‘always on purpose’ tactic of a bobbling strike. Deadly!! Lisa Holland and, playing her second game of the day, Agata Uchronska added 2 further goals to make it 4-0. Credit most also go to Dionne Johnson who put in a solid performance in the midfield today, never giving up on anything, making hard tackles and cleverly distributing the ball. Machine! Bebbington 1st team next weekend.

Ladies 3rd team
A convincing 5-0 victory over the local team, Triton puts the 3rd team at the top of the League. Gabi Harvey stepped up to score from a penalty stroke. Great confidence from this young talented player. It was then the Trish Boffey show…as in life, it’s very much about being in the right place at the right time and Trish impressively slotted 4 goals past Triton’s GK. The small and appreciative crowd on the side-line thought there seeing replays! Paula Bourne was awarded player of match showing great awareness and determination throughout the game. Thanks goes to Georgi Brown and Nat Stevenson for umpiring this game. Neston South Wirral next week.

Ladies 4th team
Playing away against Alderley Edge 7th team didn’t stop the Vagrants’ 4th team from being confident and dominant today. Leading 1-0 at half-time from an open play goal scored by Rachel Fairfield set the team up nicely to push on in the second half. And indeed they did, 2 goals from penalty corners (including a drag flick) from Isabelle Escott put the game out of reach. Player of the match was awarded to Michelle Chan who put in a sterling performance in defence to ensure a clean sheet.

Men’s 1st team
A reduced Men’s 1st XI travelled to Timperley today to play in the first round of the Cheshire cup. A positive result was always going to be a tough ask, and although both teams had their fair share of chances, Timperley made their quality show, leading 3 – 1 at half time. Ben Read scoring with a great flick into the bottom left corner. Vagrants defended resolutely in the 2nd half and managed to contain Timperley until a superb chance to get within one goal, was unfortunately saved by the keeper with the resulting counter attack seeing Timperley score to lead 4 – 1. Tired legs meant more chances opened up and goals flowed for Timperley in the final 10 minutes. Plenty of positives to take from the game, and an opportunity to put things right in the season opener against Deeside next week.
