Mens 1s game cancelled.

Ladies 1s v University of Liverpool 2s – 17-0 WIN
Fueled by positivity from last weeks 6-3 win over Neston, Crewe set their sights on making an early impact against Liverpool University. Within minutes, Crewe made a feisty attack where Emma Buckley and Claire Terry were both available to scrape the ball across the line for the first goal. Not long after, more attacking play saw Bev Jackson fire home a top corner finish. Crewe became relentless in their attack, with Ola Jama running through for a third. Next up was a corner for Crewe, where a perfect pass met Abbie Richold for a brilliant finish. Liverpool University struggled to get the ball through lines and some Crewe interceptions led to a fantastic strike by Zoe Franklin deflected into the goal by Bev Jackson. More interceptions and clever passing allowed Ola Jama in for her second goal and to finish the half Claire Terry scored another trademark Crewe corner, taking the score to 6-0 for half time. A rousing half time team talk from coach Pete warned against complacency and encouraged the team to carry on in the same vein and this is exactly what they did. Crewe started the second half with a ruthless mindset, where an interception on the first pass back, lead to Ola Jama completing her hat trick. This she followed very swiftly with her fourth, again after positive interceptions from her teammates. Crewe continued with a flurry of goals, not giving Liverpool much breathing space. Lovely goals from Bev Jackson, Ola Jama and Zoe Franklin, a result of smart play in and around the D by Crewe. A clever drag flick penalty corner from Zoe Franklin and an excellent shot from Becky Bundred on another corner took the score to 13-0. Perhaps unlucky for some, but not for Crewe who through more selfless passing and thoughtful teamwork, took the game to 16-0 with goals from Becky Bundred, Zoe Franklin and Ola Jama. Special mention should go to Crewe full back Helen Glanville who to the delight of her teammates, with 7 seconds to go, scored the 17th goal of the game on the eve of her 40th birthday. Happy birthday Helen! All in all a very pleasing day for Crewe Ladies 1’s!

Ladies 2s v Sandbach 1s – 4-1 LOSS
The Ladies 2s were away to top of the league Sandbach this week. As soon as we arrived it started raining but we pushed that to the back of our minds and focused on the tough match ahead. Crewe started off strong pushing up the pitch with excellent passing between Nic Shrubb and Leanne Read resulting in winning a short corner. An outstanding short corner performance from Nova Wallace put us in the lead 1-0 within the first 10 minutes. Sandbach however managed to gain momentum with balls into the D that were slid into the goal at the back post. Becca Jackson, our amazing goalie made some fantastic saves when balls were flying in from all directions. Unfortunately, Sandbach began to dominate the pitch and managd to bag 2 more goals. Some excellent play from Maddie Lycett managed to dodge round defenders and create an excellent attack on goal that we unfortunately couldn’t execute successfully. We had strong play down the wing between Katie Bell and Louisa Naylor who then passed onto Meg Sherratt but we could take advantage of this. The weather worsened toward to end of match with rain and sleet and with Sandbach getting another goal to ended on 1-4 to Sandbach. Well done girls.
Mens 4s v Alderley Edge – 6 – 4 – LOSS

The day started off sunny but was soon cold and raining. Despite this, great character and resilience was displayed within the Mens 4s. The game did not start well and despite our best efforts, Alderley, a strong side, were up 3-0 at half time. In the second half we regrouped and through goals from Paul and Roy we were back in the game 3-2. The match remained somewhat balanced before a flurry of goals saw the scoreline change quickly. Alderley were able to score 4-2, but Crewe struck back with Gadsby to make it 4-3 not to be stopped Alderley made it 5-3 but again Crewe countered with a goal from Paul 5-4. The game continued with more goals from Alderley to end a ten-goal thriller 6-4 to the home side. Nevertheless, a great and enjoyable game.

Mens 2s v Wilmslow 3s – 7-0 WIN
Crewe were feeling confident and hungry for a win to give them an advantage for promotion this season. On the pitch they played very well and within the first couple of minutes Ash had an amazing shot on target which struck the back of the net. Second goal was from Harvey who received the ball and performed a back hand blunt which went past the keeper making it 2-0. Crewe had been given a short corner which was set up for a drag flick, Paddy injected the ball perfectly to be trapped for Nathan to flick the ball into the bottom left corner giving Crewe the lead of 3-0. The 3-0 lead and his first goal didn’t stop Nathan going for another, and following up with his second goal pushing Crewe to 4-0. Ash was full of shots and managed to bag 2 more, one after another to give Crewe a 6-0 lead. The final goal was scored by Harvey who once again received the ball well to perform another back hand blunt, finishing the game at 7-0 – clearly Nathan’s coaching the night before at under 16s boys training paid off. Crewe had an amazing performance and are still 1st in the league with a massive honourable mention to Ryan Spurrier for making his debut, what an amazing game he had.

Mens 3s v Macclesfield 3s – 3-1 LOSS
Crewe Vagrants 3rd team entertained Macclesfield 3rd team for this week’s fixture. Having played them away this season already there was plenty of knowledge as to where their danger would come from. In a tightly fought first half Macclesfield opened the scoring. However, after a great build up by Crewe they equalised with tidy finish from Greg Marshall. Unfortunately, before the break Macclesfield scored a second meaning Crewe were down 2-1 at half time. The game in the second half was very different with Crewe being camped in the opposition half. Chances went begging and it required number of fine saves from the Macclesfield keeper to prevent Crewe from scoring. In the final minutes of the game Macclesfield scored their third and Crewe will feel frustrated by the final 3-1 loss .

Ladies 3s Vs Alderley Edge 6s – 0-1 LOSS
Crewe started the first half with a great defensive start. The team communicated effectively calling players back to support. The team remained strong sending balls from the defensive D up the pitch to the forwards. Meg Swain was a great asset to the team in the middle, distributing the ball out wide to the wings and into spaces for the forwards to receive. At half time we remained 0-0 and a good half time team talk provided strategies going into the second half. The team set out with great intensity  progressing up the pitch with some powerful balls from Heather in defence. Alderley had some effective passes in the middle and a lucky pass into the D to score a goal. Crewe came back with some great attacks but couldn’t get a goal despite Lucy’s efforts. Sophie played brilliant on the right defence picking up players as they came into the defensive 25 and working with the wings to stop further goals from Alderley. It brilliant to see the 3s playing as a unit together moving up and down the pitch. It was a fantastic effort from everyone. Well played Crewe

Ladies 4s v Triton 2s – 1-1 DRAW
A local Derby game, they’re always the most interesting and anticipated. This one started with an intense attack from the Triton girls who invaded our danger zone within seconds. A bare eleven fought back; accurate hit outs, wide play and communication to boot. Amelia Wilson and Wendy Howard in the central defence meant business, supported beautifully by Jess Fleet and Emma Stewart, our flying defenders. Captain and goalkeeper, Adele White had predicted there would be 15 short corners and 1-1 score. The corners came and went. Triton were convinced they had converted one but the ball had not left the D, oh well, plenty more attempts to come! The Crewe feet were unusually a problem this week.
Lucy Howard at the bottom of the diamond was her usual self, demonstrating her silky 360 skills and passing out to the midfield of Katherine Smith and Jackie Jones who were instrumental in feeding the ball to the attackers. Thanks to their experienced defender, a number of ventures into the Triton D were not to be fruitful.
Could it be a 0-0 draw? This became more questionable when Triton made it 1-0 due to the ball deflecting off Adele’s gauntlet into the top corner of the net. More defensive short corners came and went which caused Triton some upset. Amanda Woolley, Grace Carter and Jess Paterson gave Triton more trouble and Amanda popped the ball right past their keeper! Go Amanda. A much welcomed draw and well deserved for our disciplined ladies. Well done girls for your resilience and grit. All’s fair in love and war. Back at it next week at home, hosting Deeside 4’s.
