Ladies 4s vs Whitchurch 6s 3-2 LOSS

The final scoreline wasn’t reflective of the possession and momentum which was with Crewe throughout. Whitchurch did well to score early in the first half despite Crewe’s best efforts. Lots of quick passes, good communication and supportive team spirit led to an equaliser. Pushing high up the field, Crewe often looked the stronger team, but it was Whitchurch who managed to make the most of their chances and squeaked in a second. A set piece saw Crewe equalise again before a final chance from Whitchurch sealed the win close to full time.
Away to Triton next week.

Ladies 2s vs Oswestry 1s 4-2 WIN

This week Crewe played at home against Oswestry. Crewe started strong with an outstanding attacking performance and within 5 minutes of the game Meg Sherratt scored a goal from an Louisa Naylor assist, a strong cross into the D. Some well executed passing though midfield between Leanne Read and Nic Shrubb led to a second goal from Jennie Hewett, leaving Crewe 2-0. Strong defence from Nova Wallace and Erin Wray kept strong counter attacks from Oswestry at bay. Oswestry won a short corner but was saved by GK Karen Ruston. Some great leads and distribution up the pitch by Katie Gibbs-Blythe and Poppy Harrington, led to a goal from Trish Boffey, leaving Crewe 3-0 at half time.
Oswestry came out strong in the second half leading to a flurry of short corners against Crewe and resulting in an Oswestry goal. Crewe then won a short corner of their own, stoped by Katie Bell and a strike off the top of the D by Nova Wallace finding the goal, leaving the score 4-1. Oswestry fought back and won a short corner scoring in the last minute. The game ended on 4-2. Well done girls.

Mens 4s v Knutsford 3-2 WIN

Crewe 4s faced off against a tough Knutsford side this weekend with a bare 11. The first half was an even affair with only a mazey half pitch dribble from Paul North finding Greg Marshall on the p spot to open Crewes Account. In the second half Crewe were more structured and a reverse stick shot from a short corner from Greg added the second. Paul North went on another half pitch dribble to find himself free in the D to score the third. Knutsford rallied in the last 10 minutes but after a resilient and emergetic team display from the entire 11 men of Crewe they held on for a 3-2 victory. Well done to the younger gentlemen on the pitch today who really dug deep and battled through to the end.

Mens 1s v Neston 3-1 LOSS

This week Crewe hosted high flying Neston Hockey Club.
The game started with Crewe being patient and inviting Neston to attack, a lot of play was initially in the middle of the pitch before Neston managed to create a chance and put the ball in the back of the net. Neston doubles their lead quickly and just before half time. As the half time whistle approached Crewe started to find their feet in the game thanks for patient work in the middle of the pitch.
In the 2nd half Crewe had a lot of possession and created good chances to no avail. Neston scored to make it 3-0. Crewe didn’t give up and Jack Townsend scored from a tight angle but it proved to be a consolation. Crewe 1 Neston 3

Mens 2s v Manchester 2-1 WIN

Crewe vagrants 2s were going into the game knowing that the outcome of the game could change the outcome of the season, with crewe needing 8 points to win the league but with manchester not too far behind in second.

The game started off quite frantic and end to end with both crewe and manchester having key chances but unable to convert them and manchester even missing an open net to take the lead. manchester did take the lead however, with a scrappy short corner that ended up giving a striker another open net to score at and scoring this time.

Half time approached and crewe were still 1-0 down with only the second half to change things and with a motivational team talk from Bruce Forster, crewe were ready to make a comeback. Coming out of the blocks quick, crewe had brought it back to 1-1 after a minute with a lovely conversion from Nathan Watson on the post after Freddy Nixon had miss-hit it at hip height, but a goals a goal and it was tucked away nicely. Crewe continued to apply pressure to manchester, who had now started to get annoyed at each other. This pressure continued with no result until a short corner where Nathan Watson beautifully flicked the ball to Andrew Ashworth who was at the near post and beautifully deflected the ball into the net.

With this 2-1 lead crewe managed to see the game out after soaking up any pressure from manchester and just attacking back at them relentlessly until they started to turn their shouting at each other up another level.

Crewe Vagrants 2s now only have to find 5 points in 4 games and the league will be with them.

Mens 3s v Deeside 6s 3-2 LOSS

Crewe Vagrants Mens 3s had a home match against Deeside 6th team and was hoping for a repeat of their away win earlier this season. However things started badly when Crewe lost possession of the ball in the D and conceded an early goal. The game in the first half was evenly contested and the Deeside keeper had to work hard to keep Crewe out. Deeside however struck next and took the game 2-0 up through a scrambled goal. Prior to half time Paul Fowler put a shot away to mean Crewe were trailing by one goal at half time. Crewe felt we were still in the match and had a good chance of not only levelling but leading based on chances in the first half. Second half Deeside stretched lead to 3-1 however 2 goals from Harry Price and Gareth Pask brought us level with 15 mins to go. However Deeside scored the winner as the clock wound down to conclude the match 3-2 to Deeside. Crewe went away thinking what might have been, thoughts quickly turn attention to another home match next week to get back in winning ways.

Ladies 3s v Winnington Park 2s 4-0 LOSS

The L3s away fixture v second in division Winnington Park was always going to be a tough game and Winnington emphatically declared their intentions with a goal in the top of the net within minutes of pushback. However the 3s have been building in form week on week this year and were not easily intimidated. Solid team play all the way through the formation, particularly up the left from wing back Amy Williams through Meg Swain and Lucy Howard kept the ball heading forwards and maintained consistent pressure in the Winnington half. Despite the sustained pressure, consistent possession and multiple opportunities in the D, including great attack from Gemma Rigby on her debut performance, goals remained elusive and a couple of skilled breakaway goals by Winnington saw the final score at 4:0 to the home team. No points sadly but equally not a score to be ashamed of in our position in the league.
