Mens 1s v Bowdon – 6-2 WIN

Crewe started bright but the hosts scored against the run of play. Crewe continued their strong start with a well worked corner cleared off the line. Townsend scored a wide deflection on the short corner to put the scores level. Crewe hammered Bowdon with pressure through short corners where Wolfenden finally broke the spin routine deadlock to make it 2-1 to Crewe. Another short corner for Crewe on the half time whilst was again converted by Townsend to go into the break 3-1 up. Crewe came out the second half strong with a back post tap in by Davies due to a well worked assist by Sherwani, 4-1 Crewe. Another short corner to Crewe saw another wide deflection from Townsend which saw a Bowdon foot on the line. Wolfenden calmly put the penalty stroke away to see Crewe breeze into a 5-1 lead. Bowdon counterattacked and scored a scrappy goal to keep their hopes alive. Bateman sealed the deal with another back post tap in. Final score 6-2. Great result on the road

Ladies 1s v Colwyn Bay 1s – 3-2 WIN

Crewe took on Colwyn Bay 1s away this week. Within opening minutes of the game Ola Jama took advantage of the goalie lying down, to chip the ball over her, getting the first goal of the game. Shortly afterwards she followed it up with two more goals securing a hat trick. The umpires came out in force today and despite nine defensive short corners one after another, our defenders held them all off. Unfortunately, Colwyn Bay fought back in the second half scoring two more goals however we worked hard as a team (through various injuries) to maintain a 3-2 win. Next weeks game is home against Chester 3s.

Ladies 2s v Wilmslow – 4-1 WIN

The ladies 2’s were away at Wilmslow and were feeling confident after a 7-0 win the previous week! Very quickly in the first half a goal was scored by Nova Wallace from a straight strike during a penalty corner, soon after another goal scored by Nic Shrubb from another penalty corner routine. Unfortunately Katie Gibbs-Blythe was struck in the face with ball leaving us with only 1 sub going into the second half. In the second half Crewe won the ball and created a counter attack involving many short and quick passes between Leanne Read, Jennie Hewett and Grace Leonard with Mel Brooks getting the final deflection to score the 3rd goal. Wilmslow were able to get a goal back making it 3-1. Katie Bell was on the way to scoring her first goal from a strike in a penalty corner, however it was disallowed. In the last couple of minutes of the game Crewe were awarded a penalty corner and after the initial shot from Katie Bell a rebound was scored by Grace Leonard resulting in the final score being 4-1 win to Crewe.

Mens 3s v Alderley Edge – 0-0 DRAW

Following a resounding win last week against Lymm the Mens 3s were away to Alderley Edge in what was expected to be a tricky encounter. Alderley Edge had good quality and experience at the back but still Crewe had the best of the first half. However the match went into the break even at 0-0. More chances came Crewe’s way in the second half and we were unlucky not to score. Overall each team battled hard to get the goal however it was not to be and the game ended up all square at 0-0

Ladies 3s v Warrington – 5-0 WIN

Crewe ladies 3s hosted bottom of the league Warrington and coming off the back of last weeks solid performance were in high spirits for a win. Crewe started strong with plenty of possession with plenty of runs down the wing by Chelsea Hall providing quality passes into the D resulting in a goal for Penny Jones. Link up play between defence, midfield and forwards was brilliant to which Crewe had lots of shooting opportunities another two goals scored by Amy Williams and El Snelson taking Crewe to 3-0 at half time. Second half Crewe came out strong whereby Warrington was starting two tire this enabled Crewe to score a further two goals taking the final score to 5-0 to Crewe.

Mens 2s v Macclesfield HC M2s – 2-1 WIN

The CVHC M2s returned to action for their first league game of 2023 after a couple of bye weeks at home to Macclesfield. Despite the rigorous new year training programme, Crewe started the game slowly and struggled to find their rhythm, letting several good opportunities go begging. Macclesfield provided a threat on a few occasion before Crewe eventually broke the deadlock when Benjamin Jenkins fired in the rebound from a short corner, giving Crewe a 1-0 lead at half time. The second half followed the vein of the first, with both teams having opportunities without capitalising. As the game entered the final stages, Macclesfield piled on the pressure hoping to secure something from the game. Their efforts were rewarded when a shot through a crowded D was deflected in by a Crewe defender (no names shall be mentioned)! With only seconds remaining, Crewe launched a final all-outassault on the Macclesfield goal hoping to claim a last minute winner. Eventually, a short corner was won just on the final whistle to give a high-adrenaline overtime finish. The first play was defended well by Macclesfield but Sam Holloway was in the right position to pounce on the rebound and score the goal Crewe needed! A thrilling finish to secure a 2-1 win that keeps Crewe Vagrants M2s in the running for the league title
