Penultimate weekend for the men’s section

28 Mar 2019 by Crewe Vagrants Hockey Club

Men’s 1s v Preston 2s 5-0 Loss

Crewe hosted their final game of the season against promoted Preston. The game was always going to be tough for a young Vagrants side.
The first half was a slow affair with each team creating good chances of their own but failing to capitalise on anything.
In the 2nd half the extra substitutes of Preston told as they helped themselves to 5 un-answered goals.
A disappointing way to end what has been a productive and enjoyable season.

Men’s 3s v Lymm 2- 1 Win

Crewe headed out to Lymm for one of their last matches. A win today securing promotion so tensions were high. In what was a tough selection week against a team that had been performing strong at home it was to be an uphill battle.
Crewe started strong moving the ball well and were soon able to find a ball past all defence and allowed Joe to send it straight home into net. Crewe kept up the pace and Joe found a deflection from an outstanding ball. Lymm responded with strength but the Crewe defence held until a series of fumbles led to a goal. Crewe turned it around and kept the defensive line and after having a goal disallowed Lymm started making rushed plays and Crewe was able to clear them back. Definitely not the easiest second half but Crewes resolve was stronger and the work rate higher.
Final result 2-1 to Crewe, securing promotion.
MotM Evan Bowyer for excellent keeping.
Next week away at Urmston and a draw will secure top of the table.

Men’s 2s v Stockport Bramhall 2-1 Loss

Final game of the season against Alderley Edge 6s next week.
