Masters Ladies Over 35s

Crewe O35s ladies took on Telford and Wrekin on Sunday. Crewe had players from all 4 of their women’s squad playing together for the first time. From the start Telford came flying out of the blocks and put the crewe defence under pressure leading to a short corner within 2 mins of play. Keeper Ali Smith first touch in the match was to make a save from a short corner deflection. After the first 5 mins crewe started to settle down and began to take back some control. The game had great a atmosphere and everyone on the pitch seemed to really enjoy themselves and played well as a team. Despite crewe bravely facing an onslaught from Telford the opposition eventually beat the mighty Ali to go 1 up. Crewe managed to get one back after a superb pass from Anna Bates found Penny Jones who crossed to Bev Jackson to slot the ball in. However, Telford then got their second wind and the pressure began again. Crewe defence of Helen Glanville, Katie Gibbs-Blythe, Nova Wallace and Gilly Gibbs-Blythe worked hard as a unit and depsite Telford winning lots of short corners, they were unable to capitalise on their offence. However, Telfords speed and skill soon got the better of Crewe and they scored another 3 to seal victory and win 4-1. All round it was a veey enjoyable game and great to see everyone playing together well as a team.

Deeside/Crewe Vagrants U18s Girls V Leek

Well fought game by Deeside U18s against Leek meant the final result was 2-0 to the team containing 3 of Crewe’s own players – Lucy Morris, Grace Leonard and Emily Ford. The first half consisted of Deeside settling into play and a couple of well defended short corners which showed GK Grace’s host of skills. 1-0 at half time thanks to Lucy’s goal into the bottom corner meant Deeside had the confidence to play the ball up the pitch once the second half began and convert one of many well strategised short corners into a goal. With Emily familiarising herself with the new position of centre defence, Deeside managed to keep a clean sheet until the final whistle blew. A well played game by all which was very much enjoyed by all the Crewe players involved ,means the team is through to the next stage!

U16s Brooklands/Crewe Vagrants Girls V Deeside

Morgan Zwijnen and Izzy Escott played for Brooklands u16s today against a strong u16s Deeside team. Deeside came out strong and it took a short time for Brooklands to settle into their stride. At half time it was 2-1 with Izzy getting on the score sheet after a re-bound off the post. Some great runs left and right from both Morgan and Izzy providing the team with plenty of opportunities. The game was fast and furious with lots of skill from both sides. Brooklands finished with the upper hand in a 4-1 victory. That gives them 2 wins out of 2 so far with Alderley Edge and Bowdon still to play after Christmas.

U14s Boys

Crewe Vagrants under 14 boys travelled to Cannock for the first fixture of the U14 England Hockey tournament.

They faced a strong Stone team first, losing 13-0. Crewe took a while to settle but once they did there was some good play.
Keeping spirits high and with a little change around with the team Crewe played Mossley Hill. Playing without a keeper was never going to be easy, another loss 13-0. Despite the score we saw some great defending from the boys within the game and from short corners.

They took on Cannock for their final game. The boys played a great game with some good passing and great teamwork. Crewe boys getting some great shots on goal but unfortunate not to find the back of the net. Final score 4-0 to Cannock.
There were a lot of positives to take away from the day and also some points to work on ready for the next fixture. The next fixture takes place on Sunday 9th December at Stone Hockey Club.
