Mens 3s v Alderley Edge 7s – 3-2 Win

Crewe hosted Alderley Edge today. From the start Crewe applied pressure with strong midfield plays leading to a couple of close shots on goal followed by Jimmy Farshahi shot being deflected by the keeper into James Fearnies waiting stick, a clean swipe and Crewe went one up. AE looked to equalise and while Crewe held up a clean defence a long messy play saw AE put one away. The second half saw Crewe come out fighting with excellent use of pitch width and quickly turned a ball over allowing a goal to be made from combined effort between Mark Frost and James Fearnie with Andy Gadsby putting it away. Crewe kept the pressure up but AE were able to make a quick break bringing it back to a level playing field. With only 2 minutes left Crewe were not giving up and a fast ball have Jimmy the chance to cross to Andy who cleanly chipped it over the keeper. With such short time left Crewe played a smart controlled game not giving AE a look in to bring it back. An excellent performance with a well deserved 3-2 win. MOTM Phil Meakin for relentless effort and excellent midfield plays

Mens 1s v West Derby 1s – 6-4 win

The mens 1’s travelled to West Derby this week, a place which usually brings goals but 0 points. However, this week it brought goals and 3 points. Andrew Ticehurst started the scoring with a first time slap in to the goal. West Derby hit back with a well taken goal of their own but then Ben Read helped himself to two goals one from a short corner and one from a well worked team goal. 3-1 at half time and a mad 5 minutes ensued. 3-1 soon became 4-3 to West Derby until Nathan Watson fired home from the top of the D to wake Crewe up. Chris Regan then put the visitors ahead with a penalty corner but Ben Read helped himself to his hat trick to put the game beyond doubt. Final score West Derby 4 Crewe 6.

Ladies 1s v Lymm 1s – 4-1 Loss

The ladies 1s played a strong Lymm 1st team this Saturday, it was a cold start for both but Lymm soon scored two goals in quick succession as Crewe were still getting into the game. Solid defence by Georgie Brown, Emma Bostock and Helen Glanville meant the score remained 2-0 at half time. Crewe were determined to bring their energy into the next half and they certainly achieved this with quick runs and good skills down the the line by Issy Escott, Lisa Holland and Zoe Franklin -meaning much of the play was around the Lymm D. Despite Jen Zwijnen’s key tackles in the middle, Lymm managed to score their 3rd of the game on the break. But Crewe’s spirits were soon lifted after Marianne Hunter dribbled down the pitch and scored a great reverse goal with help of the whole team’s short passes between each other. With lymm scoring another in the last few minutes, it was a 4-1 loss to Crewe but the score didn’t reflect the hard work put in by everyone, especially Dionne Johnson who worked tirelessly throughout. Sale at home next week.

Mens 2s v Alderley Edge 6s – 5-0 Win

Crewe 2s travelled to Alderley edge for a late push back. Both sides started well and seemed evenly matched in the first 10 minutes. Crewe pressed hard and eventually won a short corner which Jamie Escott dispatched clinically from left slip. Crewe maintained the pressure and a second short saw Jamie again convert from left slip. 2-0 at half time and Crewe were down to a bare 11 due to injury. Martin Walford moved from left half to centre back and helped the defence to keep a clean sheet, whilst at the other end of the pitch Russ Gibbons, Sam Holloway and Jordan Ashmore created opportunities galore for the forwards. Jamie Escott kept finding space in the D and finished his hat trick and began work on his second. Final score Crewe 5 Alderley 0. Man of the match: Russ Gibbons for his work rate in midfield with Jamie Escott a close second for his 5 goals.
