Men’s 2nd team (7-5 win)
The first game of the 2017 proved to be an exciting end to end game with plenty of goals and unfortunately, some questionable defending. The game started incredibly well for Vagrants with 3 quick fire goals in the first 10 minutes. The first scored by Nathan Watson after some excellent team build up play. Upon going 3-0 up the game evened out and some good play from Carlisle saw them grab a goal late in the first half only for Vagrants to reply immediately with one of their own. This time a great finish from Matt Hodgson in his home town, vs his home town club (Matt is studying at MMU). The team talk at half time stressed the importance of keeping the ball/not giving the ball away was quickly forgotten as Carlisle pressed high and took advantage of a few questionable defensive decisions to bring the game back to 4-3. Vagrants then pressed on again matching Carlisle goal for goal in a game resembling more a game of basketball than hockey. The win for Vagrants was never in doubt while the score of 7-5 may have been a surprise. An excellent victory and the team move on to another relegation clash vs bottom club Formby next week at home!

Men 3rd team (2-0 win)
A comfortable win today for the Men’s 3rd team against a Macclesfield side struggling for form. In the first half Vagrants dominated play and scored two quick goals through debutant Ian Ford. Jamie Escott was clearly paying for those extra mince pies and was not his usual clinical self in the D so it remained 2-0 at the break!! The second half continued in much the same way with Vagrants creating plenty of chances but unable to add to the score line. Macclesfield rallied a little near the end of the game but with stand in keeper Tom Link not touching the bank all game, as with the Men’s 2nd team, the result was never in doubt.
